ENDINGBEGINNING CEREMONY

When I was getting close to finishing chemo, I read an article. In the article, the author said that endings were merely new beginnings, and she coined a term, "Endingbeginnings."

To celebrate this ending and my new beginning, I had a party. I sent an email to all of my loved ones - my Hope Holders.

I asked that they come join me as I let go of this cancer - as I celebrate my new beginning. I also asked that they bring something that they were ready to release. It would be private, no talking or explaining. When the time was right, my Hope Holders and I would give our endings over to the fire. We'd burn something that represented what we were ready to release.

The night was wonderous. We built a beautiful fire that was fifteen feet across. As we all gathered around the fire, we chose private moments to let the fire consume our endings and open us to new beginnings.

At the very end, my husband and my friend, Terry, picked up the couch that I had slept on, been sick on, survived one - and they threw it into the fire. My father took the picture (above) with his camera, but that moment is burned in all of our memories.

It was the moment that,
I felt my soul fly free.
