Pam Hutley

I am born from generations of textile women dressmakers, embroiderers, and knitters. I learned these skills and more, finally coming to spinning my own yarns, dyeing them with the fabulous hues of natural dyes, and weaving them into tapestries.

The first two tapestries were woven for an exhibition titled “Women’s Work.” I thought about how women can be the butt of “jokes” such as “women think with their feet” and “jumping in with both feet.” These small works show women (and our feet) can do anything, and look pretty attractive too!

"Piano Mama" is the first of work I want to do celebrating "the feminine of size."

Last June (2006) I traveled

to Brisbane to learn

to make "Lastless shoes."

This means they are

shaped on the foot

of the maker

of the shoes...

so are very individual.

I love them!
